Kristie Metz, MA
About Kristie
Throughout my life, I have always been fascinated with human development, particularly resiliency and an individual’s capacity for change. This interest led to obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development from Vanderbilt University. After working internationally as a teacher, I decided to purse my doctorate in School Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin. In my four, going on five, years of training in my doctoral program, I have acquired experience in a variety of settings, including public/private schools, outpatient mental health facilities, inpatient mental health facilities, and hospital settings. My work with clients includes a wide variety of ages (4-65 years of age) as well as many diverse backgrounds. In particular, I have been trained in intelligence, academic, social, emotional, neuropsychological and risk assessments. I have experienced a wide range referral concerns, including, but not limited to, determination of gifted intelligence, identifying learning disabilities, further understanding cognitive abilities (including mental retardation determinations), overall or specific emotional functioning concerns, attention difficulties (ADHD), and social functioning concerns (Aspergers and/or Autism). I find that the assessment process not only helps children, adolescents, adults, and/or families better understand the difficulty for which they are seeking an assessment, but that through a collaborative process, ways to address or help this difficulty can be created. In particular, I have a wide-range of experience with collaborating with school systems to ensure children, adolescents, and college students receive the academic, emotional, and/or behavioral support needed to succeed in educational environments.
