About Dr. Brooks
I earned my license as a psychologist in 2000 and have been working in the mental health field in Austin for almost 20 years. I have acquired work experience across a number of different settings including community mental health agencies, inpatient and day treatment facilities, schools, hospitals, and juvenile justice programs. Assessments have been a major part of my training and practice since graduate school and continuing into my private practice that I began in 2004. My areas of expertise in assessment include ADD/ADHD, emotional/behavioral functioning, dyslexia, and learning disabilities. Philosophically, I believe that evaluations should look at the whole person, including strengths and weaknesses, as well as familial, cultural, and social factors that influence a person's functioning. Ultimately, I believe that the heart of assessments is in the recommendations, and these recommendations are best derived from a clear understanding of the person. The Austin Psychological Assessment Center (ApaCenter) was born out of the idea that having psychologists with different but overlapping areas of assessment expertise is the best way to ensure that we can meet the diverse needs of our clients.

About Dr. Cormier
My interest and love over the past thirty years has been working with children and youth from 3 to 18 years who present with emotional and behavioral challenges. I’ve assessed and/or treated children with developmental delays, depression, oppositional behaviors, have experienced trauma or abuse as well as those with a wide range of child and adolescent psychiatric disorders. Most recently, as both a clinical psychologist and district school psychologist working in Hawaii public schools, I have specialized in helping families and schools identify and understand the issues underlying a child’s difficulty succeeding in school. My perspective is that families, schools, and often the child, must work together to develop positive behavioral supports in order for each child to learn, make friends and follow school rules. On a personal note, I come from a culturally diverse, large family, have raised four children of my own and often draw on those experiences to enhance my practice.

About Dr. Guli
I come to the ApaCenter from a rich background of over 15 years of working with children, adolescents, and their families in diverse settings, ranging from art and drama to addressing the social competence needs of children with Asperger's Syndrome. After obtaining my Ph.D. at The University of Texas at Austin, I completed my predoctoral internship at the Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers in Dallas, TX, and my postdoctoral residency with the Austin Independent School District. I enjoy finding the gifts inherent in the challenges each of us face. We are so much more than the labels we are given. Thus, I believe in an overall strengths-based approach to assessment, one that helps parents formulate the right questions in order to find useful solutions. Additionally, I strive to make assessment a therapeutic and creative process. For example, I often present feedback to clients in the form of a story, allowing them to participate in the process and find their own answers. Through assessment, I endeavor to help children and their families better understand themselves and the world in which they live.

I earned my Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin. I subsequently completed an internship at the University of Minnesota Medical Center with rotations in neuropsychology and pediatric psychology, with a focus on children who were experiencing a range of difficulties including cystic fibrosis, prematurity, metabolic disorders, fetal alcohol exposure, developmental disabilities, psychiatric conditions, and learning and attention difficulties. My training and experience have resulted in my interest in ensuring that clients with a broad range of difficulties (including dyslexia and ADD/ADHD ) utilize their patterns of strengths to achieve their goals. Because I have also worked within school districts, I understand how to access special education and Section 504 services effectively. Additionally, I can ascertain whether extended time or other accommodations would benefit a student in college entrance exams and develop a plan for college accommodations. Providing practical and effective recommendations based on an individual’s pattern of strengths and weaknesses is my ultimate goal in completing assessments.

I have a focus and specialization in neuropsychology. I am a Licensed Psychologist and Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. I have also conducted psychological and neuropsychological evaluations in a community based-clinic, university clinic, children's hospital, and in public schools in Texas and Virginia.

My view is that evaluations are a collaborative process in which information regarding an individual’s strengths and weaknesses are obtained from variety of settings (e.g., home, school, and community) and multiple sources in order to guide intervention strategies. My goal is that, through a comprehensive evaluation, my clients gain a deeper understanding of their skills and how to best capitalize upon them.
