Dr. Melissa Case-Vincent

About Dr. Melissa Case-Vincent

I earned my Psy.D. (a doctoral degree) in Counseling Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. I received extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of difficulties (e.g., ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, depression, anxiety, and autistic spectrum disorders). I’ve delivered these services in a variety of settings, including public schools, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, community health clinics, juvenile probation, and child guidance centers. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the Lewisville Independent School District, where I received additional training in assessment for special education eligibility, consultation, parent training, and therapy. Furthermore, I have provided career counseling/assessment,  and individual therapy for college students in a university counseling center. My extensive work with children, adolescents, couples, and families in a variety of settings has provided me with a broad repertoire of clinical experience and familiarity with working with multiple systems. This background helps me to effectively serve the diverse needs of my clients.

Therapy Approach

My approach to therapy is interpersonal and collaborative. I strive to develop a strong therapeutic alliance with you that will better enable us to achieve your treatment goals. I have a strong interest in multicultural issues and working with diverse populations. For me, diversity not only consists of race or ethnicity but also consists of sexual orientation, gender, socioeconomic status, religious affiliation, age, and a myriad of other characteristics that make an individual unique. With this in mind, I integrate your personal history (narrative) and solution-focused therapy goals to develop an individual treatment plan with you in order to facilitate the growth and change you wish to see in your life. My approach with children is from a family systems model, which emphasizes family relationships as an important factor to nurture change and development. I utilize play-based therapy along with solution-focused techniques with children and their families. In couples therapy, I use Gottman’s approach for assisting you in making your relationship work. Oftentimes, we come into our relationships with different values and childhood backgrounds. Similar to my work with individuals and families, I will work to create short term goals with you to grow and evolve into the couple that you strive to be. Overall, as a therapist, I see myself as a facilitator in identifying your personal resources and providing a space to explore your inner strengths.

Assessment Approach

I find that psychological assessments are an effective way of identifying strengths and weaknesses that impact every day life. Importantly, it is through this clear understanding of you or your child’s strengths and weaknesses that I can make specific recommendations to help you overcome your obstacles and achieve your goals. My assessment work focuses on learning disabilities (such as dyslexia), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD), emotional and behavioral challenges, and autism spectrum disorders (ASD). I provide assessments to children, adolescents, and adults. My experience in the schools and training as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) allows me to provide recommendations for school accommodations and interventions as well as recommendations beyond you or your child’s school career.
